CUBA: Hidden Stories
Cuba is a place and time of nostalgia that will soon disappear. There is a lively sense of community street life where people dance to Afro-Cuban music, challenge games of dominos, repair classic cars, share food with neighbors, and kids play baseball with bottle caps and sticks. Yet as an outsider looking inward, my intuition led me to photograph a quieter view of Cuban life. As people looked outward from doors and windows, I captured faces and gestures that expressed silent emotions hidden beneath their facades. They reflect stories of hardships and joys, realities and dreams, and love and loss that connect us all.
